MEDIA, PA – Senate Majority Leader Dominic Pileggi, a long-time supporter of small businesses in Pennsylvania, announced today that he has received the endorsement of The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) and the Chester County Chamber of Business and Industry.
"The Chester County Chamber of Business and Industry appreciates the commitment shown by Senator Pileggi," said Marianne Martelli, Vice President of Operations of the Chester County Chamber of Business & Industry. "Senator Pileggi has been a long-time advocate of the local business community in addressing issues that are important to our members. We are fortunate to have his support in Harrisburg and are pleased to support his return to the Pennsylvania Senate, as he has continuously demonstrated his knowledge of the steps needed to be taken to encourage economic development in Pennsylvania."
"Small business is the economic engine fueling the local economy," said Senator Pileggi. "To sustain the upward growth, we must be proactive in our approach to helping small businesses grow so that we can create new jobs and create new economic development opportunities. In light of the current economic situation, it is as important as ever that state government work with the business community to provide a pro-growth economic environment."
"Senator Pileggi has shown a commitment to working in support of the interests of small business to help fuel economic growth and job creation. The NFIB is proud to support Senator Pileggi and his pro-growth record," said Kevin Shivers, NFIB state director.
His strong pro-business voting record includes a 92 percent vote rating from the Chester County Chamber of Business and Industry and a 100 percent vote rating for the NFIB. But Senator Pileggi has also worked closely with labor unions, working to find common ground where unions and business owners can work together to further economic development in the region and create jobs. Because of those efforts, Pileggi has been endorsed by the AFL-CIO and the Regional Building and Construction Trades.
Most recently, Senator Pileggi has shown his support for the Senate Republican Tax Stimulus Plan, which would provide nearly $96 million in tax relief for lower-income working Pennsylvanians, small businesses looking to expand, and major job creators. The stimulus package was approved Oct. 6, 2008, by the Senate Finance Committee.
The National Federation of Independent Business is the nation's leading small business association, with offices in Washington, D.C., and all 50 state capitals. The Chester County Chamber of Business & Industry is Chester County's largest pro-business advocacy organization with more than 1,600 member companies employing more than 60,000 people.
Senator Dominic Pileggi is currently seeking re-election to the Pennsylvania legislature representing the 9th Senatorial District, which includes portions of Delaware and Chester Counties. Pileggi has utilized his position as Senate Majority Leader to champion reform in Harrisburg, working to improve accountability and transparency in state government. Senator Pileggi has also been a strong advocate of fiscal responsibility, working to block efforts to increase state spending while holding the line on taxes. Pileggi has been a strong advocate of health care reform, fighting for the extension of the MCare abatement program, championing medical malpractice liability reform, and addressing the problem of the uninsured.
